Company History

NES Communication Services was founded in 1980 by John Foley, Jr. in Worcester, MA. Originally known as New England Satellite Systems, Inc. (NESSI), the company’s primary concentration was on commercial satellite earth station installations. Charter clients included MIT, the U.S. Army Special Forces at Fort Devans, Willams College and Bennington College.

In 1984, NES provided a critical link between the Los Angeles Summer Olympics and Europe and South America, serving as a television relay point for customers such as Western Union, Netcom International and WOLD Communications.

As the company evolved, it added key capabilities to support satellite videoconferencing, including transportable satellite downlinks, audiovisual equipment and point-to-point microwave technology.

1990 saw the acquisition of NES’s first satellite uplink vehicle, which has since grown to a fleet of six. The vehicles offer rapid response for breaking news and live sporting events throughout the Eastern United States as well as video and data communication services for corporations and institutions across the country. The company also maintains flyaway uplink and production capabilities, enabling live, multi-camera productions to originate from nearly anywhere in the world.

With the addition of broadcast-quality production equipment, videoconferencing technology and web streaming capabilities, NES had developed into a multi-faceted communication services provider. That evolution led to the need for a new corporate name that better reflected to broad range of services offered and service areas in which the company was operating.

In April of 2005, New England Satellite Systems formally changed its name to NES Communication Services. The moniker remains true to the company’s heritage without limiting the geographic service area and capabilities implied by the original name.

NES is proud to maintain a diverse range of dedicated clients around the world, all who share the common requirement of high-quality, reliable video and data communication.
